I'll be back !

Visited the physio at Apollo Clinic - must say that he was totally clueless. 20V and 30 min later, I was worse off. The only good thing he did was to refer me to a sports injury specialist.

This joint (Spintos) was the run of the mill clinic with some beds - but I must say that the physio was exceptional. He guided me through some twists and turns. Showed me one exercise which has been awesome ! It pepped me up several degrees and I felt like a million dollars after a couple of days of misery.

We decided to celebrate with a lunch at Novotel :-) almost immediately ! The lunch was pricey but the overall package was pretty good. Had some strange Pear based chicken salad amongst other things. Nice way to spend 1500 bucks and a afternoon. Back at home later followed by a short drive (I drove !) and a walk. Kids had a blast on a trampoline kept outside one of the blocks by some kind soul (bless him !).

Slept in the guest room because of my insatiable need for space ! Got up real early - like 1600 hrs for a pee. Managed to get up in something like 10 min's (honest to god - will never laugh at people with back problems again !)... Stiffness, some walking, bit of stretching and 2 hrs later, feeling much better. Bit worried on how long this period of convalescence (did I get that right) is going to last ?

Humility

Life humbles and how !

Yesterday, after a while, decided to have a round of tennis with some pals. During warm up, and I must say, a particular good return shot, wrenched something terrible in lower back. Some pain relief from the gym and an hr later was back at home.

That was the good part. Here's where the action started...

Lesson 1: Lying down with a back pain is NOT a good idea. That's what I did and was more or less my position for the next 18 hours. I couldn't move, shift my butt or do anything but lie comatose. Kids had no clue what's happening of course, and try to make a mash out of me on bed as usual.

I've seen a lot of pain (admittedly in other people) in my life, but this was humbling, and how. Couldn't get up, couldn't turn without help. Couldn't even pee. Felt totally helpless and even cried once.

Lesson 2: True meaning of a life partner - During the entire ordeal, my wife stood by me and helped me right throughout without a murmur or a word of reproach. It really lent new meaning (for me) to the phrase - 'for the good times and bad' ! It also helped me understand what old people must be going through on a daily basis and their emotional state. My eternal gratefulness to my lovely, caring wife for those small touches during our last 7+ years togethar.

I'm now reasonably up and about after 24 hours though still in significant pain.

Vow: I never want to feel helpless again - I will do everything required to get into a super fit condition.

Vow 2: I will never let myself be impatient with situations where my help is needed. Its easier to empathize when you have actually been through the situation yourself ! Better late than never.
